While Michael’s years of health reform were deeply fulfilling, his personal life has always been enriched by passions beyond politics — including "real tennis", antiquarian book collecting and mentoring young leaders.

Over five decades Michael has curated a remarkable wine collection, has a keen interest in family history and enjoys tracing his ancestry through the generations — a pursuit he likens to solving the "world’s largest crossword puzzle."

At the heart of it all is family. Michael shares his life with his wife, Shelly, and their two sons, Edward and Toby, who remain a constant source of inspiration, perspective, and support.
